I'm not talking about racing ...

Really, I'm not. Not that I have anything wrong with racing (far from it!) but it is not on my radar.

I'm talking more about ... participating. Yep.
It has taken me a year of not participating in cycling events to realize that I don't need to be training my face off for said events to participate. I can have fun and be in the community without tons of training miles. I'm not sure where I picked up the idea that I had to 'train' to participate. Interesting.

I believe I miss Paris to Ancaster so I have decided I will participate in that wonderful event again this year. If I get my act together I'm sure I can register in time to land myself solidly in the second wave.
From there, as I took a temporary MTB hiatus last year, I might just hit up some marathon mountain bike races. Why marathon? I don't really know. I'll be less fit so one would assume I would go shorter but ... why not?

What I am most excited about is the Saturday morning learn to ride we are going to run out of the store. Tentatively it will be occurring every second Saturday. It will consist of a quick 15 minute discussion on one maintenance topic such as tyre changes, chain maintenance, pre-ride checklist etc... Then we will head out for an nice casual ride around Guelph Lake with a focus on building skills and confidence while riding in a group.

Anyways, this is a bit of a mish mash of topics but, c'est la vie. Cycling seasons coming and I'm excited!

Tim.

  1. Nice choice, couldn't agree more. Especially about a race as unique as P2A. I hope to make it out there again also.

How can ppl find out more about the learn to ride thing? Anything online or send them to the shop?
